During Supervised Visitation services, parents will visit with their children with a supervisor present. After each visit, the visit supervisor completes a report on the activities, topics of conversations, and the behaviors demonstrated during the Supervised Visit. These reports are maintained in the clients' files, available upon subpoena. It is not the role of the program staff to evaluate the parent's performance, but simply to document the visit. For more information, see the Policies & Procedures.

One-on-one Visitation. Each parent/ child visit will have their own supervisor, allowing for more flexibility in location and length of visit. A family can arrange for up to six hours in a single day (see the hours of service for more information). One-on-one visits may be able to arrange to leave the Kids Exchange facility and visit places in the community. Consult the coordinator to confirm case specifics and/ or review the policies for more information.

Sandwiched Visitation. Only a determined amount of time at the beginning or end of the access is supervised. Regular supervision fees are assessed only for the time that is supervised. Sandwiched visitation can be used as part of a graduated schedule. Sandwich periods of supervision happen on the Kids Exchange premisis.

Therapeutic Supervision. One-on-one visitation may include a mental health professional as supervisor. In addition to observation and documentation, they will work with the visting party to set and acheive specific goals in order to improve the quality of the visit. Parents will meet with the supervisor and screened to determine the service is appropriate. Therapeutic visitation services can be voluntary, as ordered by the court or other referring party or required by the Kids Exchange. Therapeutic services are on-site and for a set number of sessions, not to exceed eight. Learn more.

Group Visitation. A lesser degree of supervision, parents and children are grouped into a ratio of three parents and their child(ren) to one supervisor. Group Supervision requires that parties visit on-site, have no guests, pass a screener, and by mutual agreement of each party. Learn more.

Make the most of a difficult situation, and try to set aside your difficult emotions during your visit. Remember that play is the natural form of communication for children, and you can follow their lead for child-centered play. It's an excellent way to strengthen relationships.
